Activity Trends Page Upgraded
A very important part of this site is the Activity Trends page. I believe considering open source projects’ activity is a vital part for an organization deciding which open source solution to implement. Unfortunately, many open source projects tend to loose momentum over time for different reasons.
For the last few weeks we have been monitoring the number of downloads and forum posts for several open source ERP solutions. One of the enhancements we made is to add the median number of downloads and posts, shown in brackets near each project name. This will provide a clear indication of current activity leaders.
Another activity trends metric we have added is Alexa Rank. Alexa measures websites activities (e.g. number of websites page views) and provides ranking for each website. Please note that Alexa Rank numbers presented in the activity trends page are derived from visits to the different projects websites (for example, compiere.com,openbravo.com,opentaps.org) and not the Sourceforge project pages.
Just remember that like any other ranking system, you want to be number one, so the lower the ranking is - the better the project is doing in terms of number of visitors.
