Starting today,I will be reporting on open source ERP news, in addition to the regular posts – recorded flash tutorials, user guides, installation walkthrough and industry trends.

I am not affiliated with any of the open source ERP vendors so news reported are provided with my own interpretation, trying to add my take to the standard press releases published by the vendors.

Expanding Presence in Emerging Markets

It is clear to the entire ERP industry that future growth for ERP in the small-medium business space is in emerging markets. Countries such as India, Brazil,Argentina and China are booming with small and medium businesses requiring business software to maintain their economies double-digit growth.

  • Compiere – Compiere is opening a development ans support center in India. Many industries (not only high-tech) realize that in order to become meaningful players in emerging markets, they must establish local presence-not only in support, but also in development (or manufacturing). It makes it much easier to develop products that meet local customer requirements when you can just drive up to their office.
  • Openbravo announced a Latin-America tour, visiting countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina. The tour is business oriented rather than technical, focusing on expanding Openbravo partner network in these countries.
  • TinyERP opened a Tiny Academy in Argentina – dating back to last year, TinyERP established a presence in Latin America through its partner, Thymbra.
