BT To Partner With Open Source CRM Leader

Several days ago I read these really exciting news - British Telecom, one of the world’s largest telecommunication companies, is going to offer to it’s huge customer base a CRM solution from SugarCRM, the world’s most popular open source CRM solution. In addition, BT will offer the commercial, on demand ERP offering from NetSuite.

I was wondering if BT contacted any of the open source ERP solutions available. I believe there might have been (or possibly there is still in progress) some kind of negotiation between BT and one (or more) of the open source ERP solutions. BP did announce that it will look to expand its offering in the future, a statement that keeps the window open for one of the open source ERP offerings to make its’ way into BT’s SME customers.

Even if BT does not go for any of the current open source ERP solution, a move by such an important telecom company to offer open source enterprise solutions might cause other major telecoms companies to offer similar solutions to their customer base. That could bring huge momentum to the open source ERP community. With the financial backup of the large telecom companies and the good reputation they have, in terms of service as well as infrastructure, the open source enterprise software world might make its next quantum leap into the mainstream.

Open Source ERP Live Online Sessions For ERP Beginners

After a short period of little updates of Open Source ERP Guru, I am back and happy to announce that I will be holding live session for ERP beginners. The series of sessions will make up an online ERP course.

These sessions will include an overview of ERP systems, basic concepts and hands-on sessions with one of the Open Source ERP solutions.

I believe that the combination of basic theoretical background along with hands-on exercise with an Open Source ERP system can provide a lot of value to anyone who is looking to get started in the great world of Enterprise Resource Planning.

I am considering using either Openbravo or OFBiz for the hands-on sessions. Both are web-based solutions and can provide a very good base for ERP beginners.

I will be using DimDim to host the live sessions. DimDim is a free, open source, online conferencing software, similar to Webex. Since DimDim’s free edition is limited to 20 members, the number of participants is limited. The live session are free,of course, so you don’t have to pay anything for participating.

If you are interested in taking part in one of live session, drop me a message and I will send you some more details.

As for schedules and detailed agenda of the online sessions, stay tuned-I will publish more information soon. You could also register to my RSS feed to get the latest updates from Open Source ERP Guru.
