BT To Partner With Open Source CRM Leader

Posted by osserpguru On April - 30 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Several days ago I read these really exciting news – British Telecom, one of the world’s largest telecommunication companies, is going to offer to it’s huge customer base a CRM solution from SugarCRM, the world’s most popular open source CRM solution. In addition, BT will offer the commercial, on demand ERP offering from NetSuite.

I was wondering if BT contacted any of the open source ERP solutions available. I believe there might have been (or possibly there is still in progress) some kind of negotiation between BT and one (or more) of the open source ERP solutions. BP did announce that it will look to expand its offering in the future, a statement that keeps the window open for one of the open source ERP offerings to make its’ way into BT’s SME customers.

Even if BT does not go for any of the current open source ERP solution, a move by such an important telecom company to offer open source enterprise solutions might cause other major telecoms companies to offer similar solutions to their customer base. That could bring huge momentum to the open source ERP community. With the financial backup of the large telecom companies and the good reputation they have, in terms of service as well as infrastructure, the open source enterprise software world might make its next quantum leap into the mainstream.
