Hi Yossi and all of you, Just released my first outcome from a project, where we read from an existing ERP system and write the data to ADempiere. Because ADempiere, Compiere and Openbravo have the same roots, the datastructures are still in most cases the same. So my approach should work for all of them, broader coverage for integrating this with SugarCRM is on the mid term roadmap. I'm already implementing an interface for Palo the in-Memory OLAP cube with tools and a plugin for Excel from Jedox.

Pls. take a closer look to:
http://compiere-kettle.sourceforge.net

It's still work in progress.

Would love to hear, some people will support this activity, I don't like the idea to develop a wheel several times!
Cheers,
Alexander

On a windows, you can also use the middle mouse button (press wheel) to 'draw' hops.

Dear Fred,

I'd be really glad if you could post a complete walk through of the integration steps to be used as a reference document.

Thanks,
MS

Hi Fred,
Since the metadata structure used by Vtiger is different from that used by Sugar, Vtiger can not 'seamlessly' replace Sugar in this setup. The problem is field mapping - in mot ETL processes, you will have to map fields from your source to fields from your destination. For example, if you source names the phone number field 'PhoneNumber' and your destination names is 'Phone1', you have to map 'PhoneNumber' to 'Phone1'. That mapping is only valid for your specific sources and destinations. There is no 'global mapping' yet, and I doubt there ever will be.
As for the underlying database engine-having your source and target system run the same database might make it slightly easier to integrate. I tcan also be easier to do performance tuning, maintenance, backups etc. on a single database flavor.
But as far as Kettel (or any other ETL tool) is concerned, once your the data source has been defined, the actual database of the data source is abstracted and as long as it supports standard SQL the database engine is meaningless.

Could I assume Vtiger would be interchangeable with Sugar in this setup?
Vtiger is getting PostgreSQL support - better future integration?
Integration - the final frontier for Open Source Enterprise Software...
Keep up the great work!

James - Thanks for the tip. I still expect a drag and drop functionality here. I might add this as a feature request.

You can connect two step in Kettle by selecting two steps (by dragging the mouse to make a box over them or by CTRL-click on both steps). Then you can right-click on either of the two steps and you should get a popup-menu with the option to create a new hop.
