A couple of important updates:

Free ERP Training

As we announced earlier this week, we will be conducting live, online, free ERP introductory sessions. The first one is coming up next week, Tuesday, March 3rd (not Monday, as was stated in the earlier announcement).
There are still a few sits left (we can have as many as 20 participants in each session). These sessions are great for anyone interested in ERP, and wants to learn the basics. Whether you are a collage student looking for an interesting career, a small business owner considering an ERP project or an IT professional looking for a new, exciting area of expertise, our free, live, online ERP courses can help you make the right decision.

3 Core Business Processes Open Source ERP Must Support

If you go to Sourceforge.net, a website that provides an open source project development platform,and browse to the ERP category, you will find no less than 402 results! That’s quite an amazing number, but if you try to dig in a little bit around that category,you will notice that many projects are actually only CRM (Customer Relationship Management),SCM (Supply Chain Management), accounting or HR applications. They do not fully support the functionality required from a real ERP solutions.

So how would you define an ERP system? My post An Introduction to ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning is a good starting point. If you are interested in implementing ERP in your organization, or are a consultant who is looking into open source ERP solutions,you must make sure the solutions you are considering does support all required businesses processes.

An Introduction to ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning

ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. It is a special type of software that provides a comprehensive solution to a company’s commercial activities – manages inventory,handles customer orders,creates purchase orders or production orders and sends invoices.

Software that manages business activities is nothing new.IBM sold a calculating computer back in the 1950’s to replace manual accounting activities. It later added engineering capabilities to its software offering,allowing the American army to conduct large amounts of missile trajectory computations. The next step in the evolution of enterprise information systems was MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) – special software that managed production processes with much greater efficiency.
